A genuine touch of Japanese artistry has arrived in Bologna.

There is a color that slips through your grasp, like a thought dissolving at dawn. A green hidden within black, vivid and mysterious, revealing itself only to those who know how to pause and truly see. This is how PIUMA HANE Kuro was born — the second gem in our PIUMA Urushi collection. Following the reddish-brown hue of the first edition, this new creation draws its lifeblood and mystery from the night: a dark, liquid, profound green that emerges like an unexpected reflection, like a whisper held in shadow.

Each surface of HANE Kuro is the result of an ancient ritual, carried out with the patience and meditation of the Japanese Tamenuri technique. Layers of natural lacquer are carefully applied and fused together, and beneath the black, a green soul glows — shifting with the light, with time, with the gaze of the observer. This alchemy comes to life in the hands of Arakawa-san, the Urushi master, who shapes each pen with slow, solemn gestures. Hariya-san seals its identity by delicately inscribing the names of Arakawa-san and SCRIBO in Katakana ideograms: a signature that doesn’t shout but endures. Finally, Rabea Gebler oversees every detail before each piece returns to Bologna for the writing test and the final touch of perfection.

As with the first edition, HANE Kuro comes with a handmade pouch created exclusively for SCRIBO by Marco Montalti, hand-crafted from authentic Japanese kimono silk and haori ribbons. Every detail tells the story of a meeting: between Italy and Japan, between writing and craftsmanship, between the visible and the invisible.

An embodiment of timeless artistry and tradition, the PIUMA Urushi fountain pens are creations of rare beauty, blending Italian elegance with the ancient and exceptional Japanese Tamenuri technique.

The Tamenuri technique is different from other techniques, as the final translucent layer becomes clearer with time and enhances the colour underneath, bringing out the depth of the multiple layers of colour carefully applied by hand. The final translucent layer must be brushed on by hand, and each speck of dust needs to be removed with a needle before curing.

Limited to only 50 pieces with platinum trim.

This SCRIBO PIUMA Hane Tamenuri fountain pen features platnium trim, and fills with a cartridge/converter (included). It is fitted with an in-house made 14k gold nib, in size Flexible Fine, with an ebonite feed.

Please also note we are unable to accept a return of this pen for any reason once it has been used with ink. Please thoroughly inspect and dry test the pen before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

For even more information about fountain pen cleaning, check out our Fountain Pen 101 video blog post.
